Utah State Standards We Will Cover During Your Visit

All programs will cover the connection between farms and necessities students find in their homes including food, clothing and more.  In addition we will touch on the state standards listed below. Students will leave with a better understanding of how agriculture affects their daily life and an appreciation for the farmers and ranchers who work hard to put food on their table and clothes on their backs.

Kindergarten

Social Studies Standard 4:
Students can explain how humans meet their needs in many ways

Objective 1:
Recognize that people have basic needs (food, shelter, and clothing) and wants (toys, games, treats).

Describe how basic human needs, such as food, shelter, and clothing, can be met.

First Grade

Social Studies Standard 4:
Students will describe the economic choices people make to meet their basic economic needs.

Objective 1:
Explain how goods and services meet people’s needs.

Identify examples of goods and services in the home and in the school.
Explain ways that people exchange goods and services.

Second Grade

Social Studies Standard 4:
Students will explain how the economy meets human needs through the interaction of producers and consumers.

Objective 1:
Describe how producers and consumers work together in the making and using of goods and services.

Recognize that people supply goods and services based on what people want.

Third Grade

Social Studies Standard 2:
Students will understand cultural factors that shape a community.

Compare elements of the local community with communities from different parts of the world (e.g. industry, economic specialization.
Identify and explain the interrelationship of the environment (e.g. location, natural resources, climate) and community development (e.g. food, shelter, clothing, industries, markets, recreation, artistic creations)

Fourth Grade

Health/Nutrition Standard 6
The students will understand how a healthy diet and exercise can increase the likelihood of physical and mental wellness.

Objective 2:
Determine the relation between food intake and activity.

Plan a balanced food intake for one day.

Fifth Grade

Health/Nutrition Standard 6
The students will understand how a healthy diet and exercise can increase the likelihood of physical and mental wellness.

Objective 2:
Evaluate personal activity level and food intake with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and plan ways to improve health.

Health/Nutrition Standard 6

Seventh-Twelfth Grade

Food & Nutrition I: Strand 6

Standard 2 
Demonstrate knowledge of healthy eating patterns, including MyPlate and Dietary Guidelines.

  1. Explain how all food groups are important to good health.
      • Each food group provides some, but not all, of the nutrients you need.
      • No one single food or food group can provide all nutrients.
      • Eating a variety ensures you get all nutrients.
